Cantilever racking cost in Australia: per-bay prices
Cantilever racking holds long or awkward loads on arms that project from a column. It is priced per bay, with arms, bracing and bases adding up, so a per-pallet-position price does not apply.
The short answer. Supply-only light-duty bays in public price lists and listings start from about A$390 to A$900 per bay, and medium-duty bays from about A$540 to A$960 (2023 to 2026 listings, different GST bases). The only itemised ranges come from a single price list dated August 2023: A$373–A$1,546 for light duty and A$958–A$3,718 for medium duty per bay. Both are single-source and likely out of date. Installation, freight and engineering are extra.
The itemised price list (single source)
| Item | Published range (A$) | Evidence | Public sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cantilever racking, light duty (2.5 m high), supply only Single and double sided, arms 600 to 900 mm, 3 to 6 arm levels. Includes GST. Price list dated Aug 2023, so likely higher now. | A$373–A$1,546 per bay (1.2 m wide) | 1 source, unconfirmed | Unirack source notes: cantilever racking, light duty (2.5 m high), supply only |
| Cantilever racking, medium duty (3.6 to 4.8 m high), supply only Single and double sided. Includes GST. Price list dated Aug 2023. | A$958–A$3,718 per bay (1.2 to 1.5 m wide) | 1 source, unconfirmed | Unirack source notes: cantilever racking, medium duty (3.6 to 4.8 m high), supply only |
The list is Unirack's Melbourne price list, updated August 2023 (Unirack). It gives a wide spread because price depends on whether the bay is single or double sided, arm length and number of arm levels. We do not have a newer itemised list, so treat these as a guide to shape, not to today's price.
Newer "from" and kit prices
| Listing | Price as published | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Light duty, 300 kg per arm | from A$390 per bay | SteelCore Australia |
| Medium duty, 500 kg per arm | from A$565 per bay | SteelCore Australia |
| Heavy duty, 1000 kg per arm | from A$775 per bay | SteelCore Australia |
| Single-sided light duty, 2.4 m, 600 mm arms | A$896 (GST basis not stated) | SpeedRack |
| Medium duty single-sided starter bay | A$543 including tax | ReadyRack |
| Light duty 2-bay single-sided kit, 3 m posts, 600 mm arms (9 arms, bracing, bases and fixings listed) | A$962.87 incl. GST (A$875.34 ex GST) | Super Rack |
The last row is a 2-bay kit, so it is not directly comparable with a single-bay price; by our arithmetic it is about A$481.44 per bay including GST, but extra arms and other parts are priced separately (the page lists a 600 mm arm add-on at A$27.00). Do not average these figures: duty ratings, heights, arms and GST bases differ. These are supply only. Prices vary, get quotes.
Two other suppliers publish cantilever figures without clearly stating the unit: Gold Coast Racking (A$100–A$400) and Steel Power Shelving (from A$200). We have not used them because we cannot tell whether they are per bay or per position.
What moves the price
- Duty rating (load per arm) and column height: price rises from light to heavy duty in every list above.
- Single or double sided, and how many arm levels per column.
- Arm length to suit your longest load.
- Finish, such as powder coating for indoor use (one kit listing says indoor powder coat).
- Everything outside the kit: freight, floor fixings, installation, engineering and any forklift or side-loader changes.
Safety and standards: ask more questions
The scope section of the free preview of AS 4084.2:2023 says it does not cover cantilever racking or drive-in racking (Standards Australia). WorkSafe Victoria, SafeWork NSW and SafeWork SA each say their pallet racking guidance is for standard selective racking and that additional safety measures may be needed for cantilever and other specialised types (WorkSafe Victoria, SafeWork NSW, SafeWork SA). So ask any cantilever supplier which design standard and engineering sign-off applies, what the arm and column load ratings are, and how inspections are done. The Standard itself is a paid document: check its scope clause. This is not engineering or legal advice.
Worked comparison
Because cantilever is priced per bay and selective per position, compare on the load, not the price: ask each supplier to quote for the same lengths and weights of stock. Our racking types comparison puts selective, drive-in, push-back and cantilever side by side. Looking at pricing for a Melbourne site? See Melbourne pallet racking.
