Used pallet racking for sale in Australia: prices and what to check

We do not sell or list racking. This page collects what Australian sellers of second-hand racking publish about price, so you know what a fair starting point looks like before you call anyone.

Prices last checked Nov 2026. Prices vary, get quotes.

The short answer. Sellers of used racking say it costs roughly 30–50% less than new, and some say up to 60%. Published listing prices we found start at about A$100 plus GST for a used 2.4 m end frame and A$33 per beam, and a used drive-in system listed at A$135 per pallet space. These are individual listings, not market averages. Used racking is only a saving if it is undamaged, compatible and correctly rated for your loads.

What the saving looks like in dollars

Our arithmetic, for illustration only: take the supply-only selective range of A$50–A$250 per position (Wholesales Direct, SpeedRack, Steel Power Shelving, Gwelo Developments) and apply the 30–50% saving. That implies roughly A$25–A$175 per position for used material, if the saving held across the whole range. It will not hold everywhere: it is a calculation on two sets of claims, not a market price. The saving applies to materials. Labour, engineering, signage and inspection cost much the same whether the steel is new or used (see Installation cost).

Before you buy: a short checklist

  1. Know the system. Ask for brand, model, frame depth and height, beam length and rated capacity in writing. Components from different systems are not safe to assume compatible. Regulators say replacement parts should come from the equipment manufacturer (WorkSafe Victoria, SafeWork NSW).
  2. Inspect every frame and beam. Look for twist, splits or cracks in uprights, bent braces, damaged or welded-on parts and missing safety clips. Our inspection checklist summarises what regulators say to look for.
  3. Get the load data. Safe working loads depend on the configuration. Used racking without drawings or load data can be difficult to rate, so ask the seller for it, or ask a competent person or engineer.
  4. Price the whole job. Add delivery, installation, anchoring, signage, any missing parts and a formal inspection (Inspection cost).
  5. Know your recourse. Ask about returns and warranty in writing. If you are buying from a classified listing, read checks before buying second-hand racking from Gumtree or a marketplace.

Drive-in and cantilever are different. Regulators say their pallet racking guidance is for standard selective racking and that additional safety measures may be needed for drive-in, push-back, cantilever and other types (WorkSafe Victoria, SafeWork NSW, SafeWork SA). Ask a competent person before buying used specialised racking.
