Pallet racking installation cost in Australia
Installation is often the least transparent line in a racking quote. Here is what Australian sources publish for labour-only installs and common add-ons.
Labour-only installation prices
SpeedRack lists install-only prices for customers who already have materials. The range ends below appear to be the 15-bay and 100-bay options on each page (ex GST):
| Item | Published range (A$) | Evidence | Public sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Install labour only, 1.8 m uprights Ex GST. Client supplies all materials. Excludes frame assembly, mesh decks, certification, repairs. We read the range ends as the 15-bay and 100-bay options, which works out near A$35 to A$37 per bay. | A$560–A$3,500 per job (15 to 100 bays) | 1 source, unconfirmed | SpeedRack source notes: install labour only, 1.8 m uprights |
| Install labour only, 6 m uprights Ex GST. Same exclusions. Works out near A$88 to A$93 per bay. | A$1,400–A$8,750 per job (15 to 100 bays) | 1 source, unconfirmed | SpeedRack source notes: install labour only, 6 m uprights |
Our reading of the listing is that this is roughly A$35–A$37 per bay for 1.8 m racking and A$88–A$93 per bay for 6 m racking. That per-bay arithmetic is ours, and SpeedRack's listings exclude frame assembly, mesh decks, certification and repairs. It is one retailer's pricing, so it is not a market average.
Installed prices per position
For supply and install, the public per-position ranges disagree sharply (see below). That makes itemised quotes essential.
| Item | Published range (A$) | Evidence | Public sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Selective racking, supply and install (basic spec) Frames, beams, safety components, install labour and basic engineering certification. Dec 2024 market data. | A$80–A$200 per pallet position | 1 source, unconfirmed | Pallet Racking & More source notes: selective racking, supply and install (basic spec) |
| Selective racking, supply and install (fully engineered and certified) Survey, engineered design, anchors, signage, AS 4084:2023 sign-off and handover pack. 2026, QLD/NSW metro. | A$280–A$520 per pallet position | 1 source, unconfirmed | Pallet Racking Maintenance source notes: selective racking, supply and install (fully engineered and certified) |
Why the installed prices disagree. Two public guides give very different "installed" prices for standard selective racking: one (December 2024 data) says A$80–A$200 per position for supply, install and basic engineering certification (Pallet Racking & More); another (2026, QLD/NSW metro) says A$280–A$520 per position for a fully engineered, certified install (Pallet Racking Maintenance). Public kit listings and supplier guides put kit or supply-only prices at A$50–A$250 per position.
The older "installed" range overlaps the supply-only ranges. Our reading, which we cannot confirm, is that cheaper quotes often cover little more than kit plus basic labour, while the higher range prices in site survey, engineered design, anchoring, signage and AS 4084 sign-off. Each of those installed figures comes from a single source, so treat both as unconfirmed and ask every supplier to itemise what is included.
Common add-ons and uplifts
| Item | Published range (A$) | Evidence | Public sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engineering, anchoring and certification add-on Part of the fully engineered installed range above. | A$35–A$75 per pallet position | 1 source, unconfirmed | Pallet Racking Maintenance source notes: engineering, anchoring and certification add-on |
| Floor assessment and repairs, if needed Only where the slab needs checking or fixing. | A$2,000–A$8,000 per site | 1 source, unconfirmed | Pallet Racking & More source notes: floor assessment and repairs, if needed |
| Engineering certification for complex layouts Complex layouts only. | A$2,000–A$5,000 per site | 1 source, unconfirmed | Pallet Racking & More source notes: engineering certification for complex layouts |
| Column (upright) protection guards | A$150–A$400 per upright | 1 source, unconfirmed | Pallet Racking & More source notes: column (upright) protection guards |
The same installer guide describes after-hours labour adding roughly 20% to 35%, cold-store work 15% to 25%, and recommends a contingency of 5% to 10% (Pallet Racking Maintenance). These percentages come from that single source.
What an installation quote should say
- Who designs the layout and who certifies it, and to which edition of AS 4084.
- Whether the price includes anchors, load signage, column guards and a handover pack.
- Access equipment, freight, site induction, after-hours work and GST treatment.
- Your floor: who checks the slab and what happens if it needs work.
Use the quote comparison checklist to line quotes up.
