Mezzanine floor cost in Australia
A mezzanine can add floor space above your racking or work area. Published Australian guides vary a lot, mostly because of what is included.
Published cost per square metre: installed
These figures are for a floor that is supplied and installed. Most are ex GST.
| Item | Published range (A$) | Evidence | Public sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mezzanine floor, supplied and installed Typical basic storage platform at the low end; with stairs, fire protection or ceilings, small floors and offices toward the high end. Heavy loads, gates and electrical work cost more, and some guides go above A$800 to A$1,000+. Ex GST in most sources. | A$300–A$700 per square metre | 7 sources | Adex Group, Compacked, Complete Warehouse Solutions, Kit Mezzanines, Vertex Mezzanine, Unistor, Storemax source notes: mezzanine floor, supplied and installed |
Supply-only (kit or structure) is a different number
Some sites publish a lower per-m² price because it is only the steel, delivered, with no installation and often no flooring, handrail or stairs. Do not compare it with an installed price.
| Item | Published range (A$) | Evidence | Public sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mezzanine floor, supply only (kit or structure) Excludes installation, and usually flooring, handrails and stairs. Ex GST. Space Rescue also gives a general average of about A$330/m2. | A$250–A$400 per square metre | 3 sources | Kit Mezzanines, Space Rescue, Space Rescue source notes: mezzanine floor, supply only (kit or structure) |
What the individual sources say
- Vertex Mezzanine (Sydney, Sept 2026): structure from A$380/m² + GST; completed jobs with staircase of A$14,500 for 25 m² (about A$580/m²) down to A$72,000 for 152 m² (about A$474/m²).
- Unistor: A$700/m² for 0–60 m² falling to A$520/m² for 250–350 m², including staircase, fire protection and ceilings.
- Compacked: estimated A$550/m² up to 60 m², falling to about A$370/m² at 250–350 m².
- Adex Group: A$300 to A$800+ per m². Examples A$30,000–A$50,000 for 100 m² of basic storage.
- Complete Warehouse Solutions: roughly A$300 to A$1,000+ per m².
- Kit Mezzanines: A$350–A$650 per m² fully installed (Brisbane/Gold Coast, ex GST); kit supply A$250–A$400.
- Storemax: A$150–A$650 per m², with kits at the low end.
- Space Rescue: supply-only A$345–A$375/m² + GST in Sydney (May 2025 examples); Space Rescue gives an average of about A$330/m².
Why the small-floor premium: stairs, certification and getting a crew to site cost much the same whatever the size, so they weigh more on a small floor (Vertex Mezzanine).
What moves the price
- Floor area (bigger is cheaper per m²).
- Load rating: 300 kg/m² storage versus 500 kg/m² or more.
- Stairs, handrails, pallet gates, lighting and offices.
- Whether you need design, engineering and approvals included.
- Rack-supported versus free-standing.
Do you need approval?
Suppliers say mezzanines usually need engineering and often council or building approval depending on use and location (Adex Group, Vertex Mezzanine). Ask your supplier who handles approvals, and check with your local council.
Do not build a mezzanine on racking without engineering. Rack-supported floors are engineered systems. Use a supplier who certifies the design.
